A major contributor to this rampant popularity was undoubtedly the English dub by Funimation, which did a comparatively great job of dubbing the lines and adding new life to Goku, Vegeta, and the rest of the cast. This dub is now legendary for all the right reasons, with ten epic quotes in particular that are memorable in every sense of the word.
10. “And So Your Son May Be The Most Powerful Person In The World… But He’s Also A Scared 11-Year-Old Boy!” — Piccolo
There’s a reason why people joke about Piccolo being more of a father to Gohan than Goku ever was — there are several moments in the series when Piccolo is the one who ends being the voice of reason when it comes to Gohan, as opposed to the child’s biological father.
This moment, in particular, hits hard since this dialogue is uttered by Piccolo right as Gohan is being crushed by Cell in a bear hug, showing just how averse the Saiyan was to fighting.
9. “Let Me Ask You – Does A Machine Like Yourself Ever Experience Fear?” — Vegeta
Vegeta is easily one of the most powerful characters in the entire series, and also one of the most beloved as well. The first time he ever transforms into a Super Saiyan is easily one of his highlights and for good reason.
Vegeta asking an android about their experience with fear before transforming into one of the most powerful warriors on Earth is a testament to just how powerful he really is.
8. “And I Won’t Watch This Anymore!” — Gohan
Of course, when one talks about epic Super Saiyan transformations, then it goes without saying that Gohan’s transformation is easily the most memorable of the lot.
It’s easy to see why this is the case — the monologue that he gets into is particular heart-wrenching, before eclipsing with this final line of dialogue as Gohan transcends his limits.
There’s a reason why this moment is considered to be the most legendary moment in the entire series.
7. “And This… Is To Go… Even Further Beyond!” — Goku
Speaking of legendary moments, it would be hard to top the insane transformation Goku went through before turning into a Super Saiyan 3.
The line he utters before commencing with one of the loudest, longest, and most epic screams in the history of shonen anime is proof enough of just how taxing this transformation actually was.
Sean Schemmel did an amazing job here.
6. “You May Have Invaded My Mind And My Body, But There’s One Thing A Saiyan Always Keeps – HIS PRIIIIIIIIIIDE!” — Vegeta
Vegeta has some of the greatest moments in the entire series, and his sacrifice as Majin Vegeta to rid the world of Majin Buu once and for all is definitely up there in this regard.
His comment about his pride rings true with his character and reminds fans why they love the Prince of all Saiyans.
5. “Fight You? No… I Wanna Kill You.” — Gohan
There was a time when Gohan used to shy away from the idea of conflict and always let his mild-mannered nature get the better of him in tense encounters.
However, this had changed with the time skip, and Gohan’s mentality was further strengthened as he became Ultimate Gohan. The nonchalant manner in which he encounters Super Buu and utters this line is the stuff of legends.
4. “I Am The Hope Of The Universe.” — Goku
Goku’s transformation into a Super Saiyan in the Frieza Arc is the stuff of legends and goes to show the lengths that the Saiyan warrior will go in order to avenge the death of his friend.
His “I am…” speech right after this transformation is easily one of the most memorable moments in the entire series.
3. “It’s Over 9000!” — Vegeta
It would be impossible to talk about some of the most epic quotes in the entire series without mentioning the infamous comment made by Vegeta that has gone down in history as one of the most memorable lines in the entire series.
The funny thing is that this was a mistranslation — the actual number was 8000, and Vegeta says the correct figure in the Kai dub… but it just doesn’t have the same effect.
2. “I Guess Name-Calling Is Your Only Attack, Because You’re Too Weak To Challenge Me Any Other Way.” — Goku
Goku was never someone who’d lie back and not utter anything antagonistic, regardless of how his personality might seem in a normal scenario.
This line, in particular, is quite poetic since it comes as a retort to Frieza calling Saiyans monkeys every single time. Goku points out how only an ignorant and scared person would make fun of a race like that, before uttering a line that would completely destroy Frieza’s soul.
1. “Trunks, Bulma – I Do This For You… And Yes, Even For You, Kakarot.” — Vegeta
It’s been said before, but the ultimate sacrifice that Vegeta makes to save the world from Majin Buu is truly one of the most poignant moments in the entire series, showing the amazing development that the Prince’s character had experienced throughout the series.
His last words before his demise talk about the people for whom he’s giving up his life… with his rival getting a special mention as well.
